The surname she uses is Bea in honor of her deceased father. Aisling Cliodhnadh was born March 16, 1984 in Kildare Town in County Kildare. Bea's father Brian was an equine vet who took his own life at the age of three. Bea didn't learn how her father died until after she was thirteen. She adopted the stage name Bea as a tribute to her father. She also published an article in The Guardian in 2017 about the suicide of her family members. Bea along with her younger sister Sinead were raised by their mother Helen (nee Moloney) a secondary school teacher, jockey trainer, and former professional jockey. Their family was obsessed with racing and horses. Bea was a trainer for The Irish National Stud in her beginning years. However, she knew, that racing wasn't what she wanted to be as a profession and preferred performing.
